The Rebellion

Kayla

Kayla is a fierce Métis woman, harm reduction advocate, and unapologetic changemaker. As the co-founder of Safe Rebel Collective alongside her partner Steven, she channels her lived experience and relentless drive into disrupting stigma and empowering communities. With years of experience as an outreach worker in Regina, Kayla has worked on the front lines, supporting marginalized individuals and advocating for harm reduction as a life-saving approach.

Safe Rebel Collective sparks conversations about substance awareness with thought-provoking designs, while donating a portion of proceeds to critical harm reduction initiatives. Kayla’s dedication to challenging societal barriers and uplifting marginalized voices fuels her mission to create a world rooted in compassion and connection.

Outside of her work, Kayla and Steven are raising three children—two boys and one girl—who inspire her to leave the world better than she found it.

Steven

Steve is the co-founder of Safe Rebel Collective, a harm reduction apparel brand that bridges creativity with advocacy. With a background as an addictions counselor and graduate student in educational psychology, Steve has dedicated his life to empowering marginalized communities through harm reduction, education, and support. His work focuses on creating safer spaces, fostering understanding, and addressing systemic challenges with innovative and compassionate approaches.

As the driving force behind The Brown Bag Project, Steve aims to provide harm reduction supplies, peer training, and educational presentations for schools and businesses. His vision is to combine advocacy and action to break stigmas and create lasting change. With years of experience working with youth, safe consumption, emergency addictions and in both non-profit and health care settings, he brings a unique blend of expertise and passion to the collective’s mission.

Outside of his professional work, Steve is a devoted father of three, an avid biker, and a published writer. He finds joy in building meaningful connections, telling stories, and exploring creative ventures alongside his wife and co-founder, Kayla. Together, they are redefining what it means to advocate for change, one design and one conversation at a time.
